Left: maximum Leafscan correction applied to the pre-scan frame - a drastic measure, but proving how much actual detail is present in the apparently black solid film of the cat. The trade-off is, of course, loss of saturation and contrast, most noticeable in the quilt. Center: the greatest possible brightness and contrast correction on the Minolta QS35 could only get this far - coal black cat silhouette! Right: the maximum acceptable correction on the Nikon, including scanning as if for a Gamma 3.0 display, revealed detail in the fur without losing much contrast and saturation.
