VITAL SUPPORT
TWO products we have seen before from other manufacturers are now part of the Multiblitz line-up imported by Hasselblad UK Ltd. The ÔScissor-Tripod' (top) is a Scandinavian portrait studio invention first seen in the UK through independent distributor Bob Rigby and made popular with users of waist-level finder 6 x 6cm SLRs at seminars, where its mobility and rapid height adjustment combined with a large tray for film magazines and filters could be demonstrated. The Multiblitz version costs £795 + VAT and adjusts from 37cm to 130cm height. The new Multiblitz background support system (bottom) costs £178.50 + VAT and includes two gaffer clamps for holding graded drop sheets or canvases. The crossbar extends from 112cm to 298cm, and a padded bag is included - but surely that's a Freudian slip of a name on the bag if ever there was one!For further information, contact (UK telephone number - replace first zero with international dialout plus 44 code for UK): tel 0181 903 3435, fax . The grids are made in 40 or 60¡ angles and fit directly into the front of the softbox assembly, collapsing flat for transport. KJP 9002
KJP - celebrating 60 years of existence through the Pelling & Cross origin rather than the younger and more sprightly Keith Johnson element - announce that they have achieved BS EN ISO 9002 accreditation in their Diamond Jubliee Year. Tony Cunningham, group managing director, expressed pride in the achievement which is thought to be a first for a pan-European imaging dealer, and even said he Ôwelcomed the continuing assessment which registration demands'. This is great to hear because most companies consider the entire thing to be a complete rip-off and the continuing assessment to be an irksome and expensive bureaucratic imposition necessary to comply with the buying policies of a few institutional customers who have nothing better to do than pursue the proliferation of paperwork. For further information, contact (UK telephone number - replace first zero with international dialout plus 44 code for UK): tel 01908 366344, fax . AM PRO
KODAK, the company which believes that the semi-pro, enthusiast, solo and freelance market does not exist and consequent has consistently ignored the existence of Photon as not conforming to any of their existing business profiles or divisions and thus not actually there, is to package up professional filmstocks for amateur retail purchase. For the firt time, from this month, 35mm professional films will be sold in single rolls, with an offer to buy two and get one free (just like those amateur Gold whatsits). The films involved re Kodak Ektachrome 100 Plus (EPP), Ektacolor Pro Gold 160 and 400 (GPX and GPY) and T-Max 100 and 400 (TMX and TMY). OK, you already use them, but it might pay you to nip down to your corner photo shop instead of placing your usual order with your trade counter or mail order supplier, unless of course they're giving a free five-pack with every five-pack you buyÉFor further information, contact (UK telephone number - replace first zero with international dialout plus 44 code for UK): tel 01442 61122, fax . GIMME FIVE
CANON has launched five new lenses for the EOS autofocus SLR range including one of the widest angle zooms yet seen, a 17-35mm Ä2.8 L USM capable of focusing down to 42cm and maintaining a constant wide maximum aperture. Improved resolution at wide angle settings and absence of vignetting are claimed enhancements over the earlier 20-35mm design. A 135mm Ä2 L USM becomes the first mainstream 135mm for the system other than the Ä2.8 Soft Focus; this focuses to 90cm, and works with the 1.4X converter to create a 189mm Ä2.8 with remarkable close-up abilities. There is a new 200mm Ä2.8 L II USM, which has a separate hood instead of a pull-out type, but is otherwise unchanged, while the 400mm Ä2.8 L II USM is a new computation with a fluorite element and improved handling. Finally, there is a 180mm Ä3.5 Macro USM focusing down to 0.48m with full-time manual focusing. For further information, contact (UK telephone number - replace first zero with international dialout plus 44 code for UK): tel 0181 773 6263, fax .
